Specialized & Other Testing

Specialized psychological and neuropsychological evaluations in McKinney for unique or complex referral questions, second opinions, and situations that do not fit standard testing categories.

Who this helps

  • Adults, older adults, and families with complex medical, neurological, or psychiatric histories where a standard evaluation is not enough.
  • Individuals needing an independent neuropsychological evaluation or second opinion related to diagnosis, capacity, or treatment planning.
  • People referred for court-ordered psychological exams, adoption or foster care evaluations, or other agency-directed assessments.
  • Professionals in safety-sensitive roles (for example, law enforcement, transportation, healthcare) who need a focused fitness-for-duty opinion.

When to consider a specialized evaluation

  • Questions about decision-making capacity, guardianship, or whether someone can safely manage medical, financial, or daily-life responsibilities.
  • Pre-surgical clearance needs (for example, bariatric or neurosurgical procedures) where mood, cognition, or readiness must be carefully documented.
  • Requests from courts, agencies, or child welfare systems for adoption, foster care, or other mandated psychological evaluations.
  • Concerns after concussion or traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, oncology treatment, or other neurological conditions where function is unclear.
  • Situations where another provider, employer, or family member is seeking a detailed, independent evaluation or second opinion.

What we assess

  • Decision-making capacity, judgment, and ability to understand, appreciate, and reason through important choices.
  • Cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning in the context of concussion/TBI, epilepsy, oncology, and other complex medical conditions.
  • Role functioning and readiness for specific transitions or requirements (for example, pre-surgical clearance, fitness-for-duty, adoption/foster care).

Specialized evaluation FAQs

What kinds of specialized evaluations do you provide?

Examples include decision-making capacity and guardianship evaluations, pre-surgical psychological assessments, fitness-for-duty opinions, adoption and foster care evaluations, and independent or second-opinion neuropsychological evaluations.

Can you coordinate with my attorney, surgeon, or agency?

Yes. With your written consent, we can share relevant findings with your attorney, surgeon, agency, or other professionals and tailor our report to the specific questions they need answered.

Are specialized evaluations covered by insurance?

Coverage varies by plan and by referral question. Our team reviews your benefits, seeks pre-authorization when needed, and can provide a detailed superbill or claims submission for out-of-network situations.

What should we send before the intake?

We typically ask for prior evaluations, key medical records, legal or agency documents, and any letters outlining the specific questions to be addressed so that testing and the report are carefully scoped from the start.
